At Whitehill Secondary, we are proud to offer our students the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), one of the UK's most well-respected and impactful youth development programs. The DofE offers students the chance to build confidence, develop new skills, and gain valuable life experiences through a range of exciting activities.
The DofE Award has three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold, with students working towards their chosen award throughout their time at Whitehill. The program focuses on personal development, encouraging students to set goals, overcome challenges, and achieve something meaningful, all while having fun and making lasting memories.
Participants in the DofE Award engage in four key areas:
โ
Volunteering โ Giving back to the community by participating in volunteer work that makes a positive impact.
โ
Physical โ Engaging in a physical activity or sport to improve fitness and well-being.
โ
Skills โ Developing a new skill or hobby that enhances personal growth and creativity.
โ
Expedition โ Taking part in an outdoor adventure with peers, which involves planning, teamwork, and navigation.
At the Gold Level, students also complete a Residential project, where they stay away from home to work with others on a shared challenge.
The DofE Award helps young people:
๐ Build confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills.
๐ Develop problem-solving abilities through hands-on experience.
๐ Learn the value of commitment, perseverance, and self-motivation.
๐ Gain recognition and respect from future employers and educational institutions.
We encourage all our students to consider taking part in the DofE Programme as part of their personal development. The program provides not only incredible opportunities but also the chance to earn a prestigious award that is recognised worldwide.
For more information or to sign up, please contact our DofE Team (Mr Wilson, Mrs McMillan, Ms Bloecker) or visit our school office.
At Whitehill Secondary, the Duke of Edinburgh Award offers a unique opportunity to learn, grow, and explore beyond the classroom while contributing to the community and preparing for the future.
