MCR’s relationship-based mentoring focuses on building a trusting relationship, helping develop the young person’s confidence and self-esteem before focusing on future goals.
Talent tasters are a menu of bit-sized workplace, college & university experiences designed by young people. Tasters provide a unique opportunity to experience the world of work and build aspirations in a way that is more engaging and inspiring for young people.
"K is planning on going to college or university in August 2024 to study engineering. Previously he was worried about his personal statement. Lacking confidence and self-belief, K often stayed within his family unit and was hesitant about meeting new people. Since completing his award, he has been working on his personal statement much more confidently.
His Pathways Coordinator and his mentor have been supporting K with this. He is now able to speak and write about the volunteering and exhibitions, as well as the challenges he faced and how he used strategies to overcome these, all of which he will use as he embarks on his next journey."
Group
"MCR group work is a good space to just chat about how we are all feeling and how we can become better versions of ourselves."
"We have fun in group work. Everyone is friendly and I can talk about how I’m feeling or if I am worried about anything."
Mentoring
"It’s been a journey so far. It’s helped me to have a reset each week, giving me the chance to just talk to someone for an hour, it’s helping me be calmer and more stable when it comes to school and outside school"
"MCR Mentoring is comforting and a safe space. I can trust my mentor and I open up about how I really feel which is what I needed."
